A little bit of sugar makes the medicine go down: BAKER'S CLUB
The SSWC volunteered via the Baker's Club at the Ronald McDonald House
near Scottish Rite, 5420 Peachtree Dunwoody Road, Sandy Springs, GA 30342.
The Ronald McDonald House provides lodging and meals to families with ill and/or injured
children, who are receiving nearby medical care. This allows the families to
focus their full attention on the needs of the hospitalized child, hopefully facilitating
a quicker and more complete recovery.
As part of the Baker's Club, our members go on site and make cookies for the children and families staying at the
Ronald McDonald House. We select recipes that we think the children will enjoy and always provide at least two choices, one of which is egg free for
those who may be allergic to eggs. We purchase the needed ingredients and
bake the cookies, being sure to clean the kitchen before we leave for the day.
The SSWC has made dozens and dozens of cookies: Kongo Bars, Chocolate chip
cookies, Rice Krispie Treats. Closer to the holiday season, we enjoyed making sugar cookies (cut into Christmas
shapes, decorated with sprinkles) and Rice Krispie Treats. Several children smelled the sweet aroma and waited at the counter to sample the warm cookies as they came out of the oven!
